American food is so hot right now. Sweet bun burgers are the new Vegemite sandwich, Cal-Mex tacos are popping up like a teenager's pimples; hell there is even a Gumbo Kitchen cruising the streets of Melbourne. I’m not saying I’m not loving it. It’s food that is generally jam-packed full of fat, salt and sugar – what’s not to like?! I’ve taken inspiration from this current trend for my latest recipe, a Peanut Butter Sundae of Love. It’s not regular peanut butter ice cream topped with chocolate fudge sauce and crushed peanut, oh no no, it also contains that ingredient so often found in many dishes on MasterChef - love.

Love is a hard ingredient to quantify, is half a cup enough, or perhaps a pinch is plenty? In this recipe there is whole heap because I love ice cream, pretty much every flavour gets me going! But I know there are people out there that can’t even stand the thought of peanut butter ice cream, and that’s OK, because I bet you like strawberry or vanilla? Everyone likes different flavours and there is nothing wrong with that. The Ice Cream Truck of Love understands this – have you heard of it? Their aim is to send their Ice Cream Truck of Love around the country offering free ice cream and support of marriage equality with the message that, "everyone deserves the opportunity to marry the person they love, no matter the flavour." Excitingly Barack Obama has publicly announced his support for same-sex marriage, he understands that liking different flavours to other people is cool. Maybe it’s all those sweet bun burgers he has been eating? But sadly the Australian government are lagging behind – they only want people who like vanilla to marry people who like chocolate. It seems a bit ridiculous, because it is! If you think that everyone deserves to be treated equally then please support the Ice Cream Truck of Love by giving them a donation or volunteering to help them get on the road to marriage equality. They hope to get raise enough money to get the truck up and running in 25 days, but to do this they need our support.

If you are a person that likes peanut butter, then you will love this crazy yummy recipe. It is super indulgent, sexy and gooey – all the things required for good ice cream eating! If you don’t like peanut butter then don’t put it in and add extra vanilla to make a Creamy Vanilla Sundae of Love instead! Making ice cream is easy and you don’t need many ingredients to do make it, but if you are going to do it, do it properly. That means full-fat milk and cream, none of this watered down “light” business. Enjoy x
