Kylie’s interest and passion for food were brought on by her nanna - who was her biggest influence, always keeping the family entertained with her cooking. It was this enthusiasm that inspired Kylie - they would bake biscuits, cakes and sweet treats during the school holidays.

“We would make homemade Sherry chocolates, but more ended up in our mouths than being made. Nanna would let us lick the bowl and she drank the Sherry as we were making them, getting progressively ‘merrier’.”
Whilst having to complete 15 weeks straight of full-time practical work for her Physiotherapy studies, Kylie realised that she did not have the passion to work in the health industry. She ‘escaped’ by cooking every Sunday morning - homemade crumpets, eggs and hollandaise, different flavoured pancakes.

“It was my creative outlet.”

She has now decided against a career as a Physio and is determined to have a career in food.

Kylie used to work in a little café and she soon developed a keen interest in what was happening in the kitchen, “some mornings I made lemon tarts and cakes to sell.” Her dream is to one day have her own dessert bar.

When in the kitchen, Kylie likes to deviate from the recipe. She likes it to be fun and puts music on in the background. “I like to sing and whistle while cooking.”

Her strengths are all things baking and sweets – it was her Peach Melba dessert that got her through to the Top 24 - and her weakness is time management. She says she has never gutted a fish.

Kylie is a thrill seeker and tends to act on a whim, “I once booked a ticket to Scotland two weeks before going!”

She has tried most adventurous sports including bungy jumping in New Zealand and scuba diving with sharks. She is a self-proclaimed ‘daggy dancer’ and loves karaoke.
