Kath von Witt

Kath met her husband Alastair 12 years ago whilst studying at University in the UK. He left his life behind and moved to Australia to be with her. Aside from marrying Alastair, Kath’s other proudest moment was becoming the Director of Hawkesbury Regional Gallery and creating a vegetable garden there.

Food and cooking have always been an important aspect of Kath’s life from when she was a child. Her parents have always been adventurous with food and her father has always had a productive vegetable garden.

“As children we were always encouraged to try a little bit of everything on our plate, even if we didn’t like it. We were also involved with meal times, shopping and gardening - growing and picking fruit and vegetables.”

Kath enjoys creating unusual and interesting dishes and encouraging people to be adventurous with their food choices. Her greatest strength in the competition is her knowledge.

“I have cooked and eaten a really wide range of ingredients. I’m not scared to try new things, I recently cooked a pigs uterus!”

Kath would like to mix her line of work - history and art - with food and one day open a sustainable restaurant. Her favourite food is oysters.
