With his award-winning establishments Fenix and Maribyrnong Boathouse among some of the best dining experiences in Melbourne, Gary Mehigan’s credentials command attention.
Gary's natural leadership qualities have come to the fore in MasterChef Australia, as well as in the first series of Junior MasterChef, and he is now set to put Australia’s next junior cooks through their paces once again for Junior MasterChef Australia 2011.
Having received training in world class restaurants, including The Connaught and Le Souffle in London in his early years, Gary has been based in Melbourne since 1991. He has headed the kitchen in some of the city’s most prominent restaurants, including Browns, Burnham Beeches Country House and Hotel Sofitel before opening the award-winning Fenix in 2000.
Before MasterChef Mehigan appeared on LifeStyle’s Boy’s Weekend and Good Chef Bad Chef. He has published cookbook Gary Mehigan’s Comfort Food as well as Your Place or Mine? with fellow JMC judge George Calombaris.
Mehigan’s wealth of experience and wisdom was invaluable to the 2010 Junior MasterChef contestants and will no doubt help the kids grow and learn this year too. But Gary is no pushover – this year’s kids will need to give it their absolute best to impress him.
