So a thin slice of cake on a plate sells, does it?

I would not be licking a cover if that was all that was on the cover. The same goes for her other 2 meals.

yep!! I would buy that delectable cake on a cookbook cover. But I certainly would sneer at a pig's head on a cover - or pig's trotters or dog bones or offal....or all the other wonderful delights Chris feels the public should embrace.

How repulsive.

Me too. Roast chicken or lamb? Like about 99% cook books out there? No thanks Julie.

99%? I wonder why....perhaps that means there's an enormous market out there for this type of delectable food. And why do we see no cookbooks with pig's head on them? ERGO!!! NO MARKET, NO INTEREST! der..

niche market was putting it politely. It's just weird...

A friend of mine, who works in a wholesale butchery which also makes its own sausages has a rather funny answer to the question when asked what's really in sausages.

His response?

Lips and ar#eholes

thank god I don't buy sausages. Or pig's head or trotters or offal or dog bones or any other revolting part of animals. That's why those things aren't in cookbooks - nobody would buy them. (take a look if you don't believe me)

Lots of things Chris made - just yuk.
Lots of the red meat things anyone made - undercooked - yuk. I know chefs like making red meat not fully cooked, but I prefer it cooked full, or a least that only a bit pink in the middle.

Liked the fish and the chicken things. Would have liked to see more vegetarian things too.

Don't like a lot of Donna Hay's recipes but I like her photographs.

A head of a pig - yuk. Steak Tartar - yuk. Pig trotters - yuk, Beef cheeks - yuk. Everything Chris wanted to make was in beer too. I'm not a beer person.

A lot of Chris's offal-based recipes didn't appeal to me, but when I'm looking at cook books I'm more inclined to pick something up that is original. Besides, I'm sure Chris doesn't JUST cook with offal - he would have recipes to include the whole animal.

Personally I love beer, so I'd be checking his cookbook if he ever releases one. I'm sure many would agree with me. It's not to everyone's taste, I know - but it's more original than yet another home-recipe cookbook. I'll look at Julie's book when it comes out but unless she includes some recipes that don't fall under the home-cook recipe category I don't really see much point in purchasing it. It's a lovely idea for familys who are getting into cooking, but when i have kids, I'll already have many scrapbooks of recipes of my own to pass on - along with my mothers.
