While Chris and Andre faced their sudden death taste test, Justine, Julie and Poh lunched at Quay restaurant. They dined with the head chef of Quay, Peter Gilmore in a private room, surrounded by large windows looking onto Sydney Harbour. Afterwards in the kitchen, Peter showed the contestants how to plate up the ornate dessert they had just eaten.

At the last elimination before the finals week of MasterChef, Andre and Chris had to taste a dish, guessing its ingredients. The first contestant to name an ingredient not in the dish would be going home.

Andre was stricken when he found out the dish was a curry - his “Achilles heel.” There were 24 ingredients in the Sri Lankan curry. Andre correctly named oil, cinnamon, curry leaves, tomatoes and coriander seeds as ingredients.

Chris correctly said coriander, star anise, onion, cardamom pods, garlic and red chilli were in the curry. Andre told Gary and George he was nervous because he was running out of “visuals” – ingredients which he could see in the dish.

Andre said curry powder was the 12th ingredient but George told him there was no curry powder in the dish. Eliminated, Andre thanked the judges because he said he now knows his passion for food translates into the commercial kitchen and that he’s going to be a chef.

Gary told Andre he was one of his favourites. George said he has a soft spot for Andre and loves his "aggressively positive" energy. He told Andre not to change and said if he was going to put money on who was going to be a chef like himself and Gary, it would be Andre.

Andre said his next guess in the taste test would have been tomato paste, which would have been correct. The other ingredients were pepper, salt, stock, ginger, nuts, whole cloves, ground cumin, sweet paprika, ground turmeric, white vinegar, mace and lamb.

Before he left, Gary thanked Andre for his personality and hard work in MasterChef and wished him well in the future. Poh was upset to find out Andre had been eliminated when Chris returned to the house, who felt great about making the finals week.

Andre returned home to his girlfriend Hannah, and his family and friends. He’s committed to his dream of pursuing a career in the food industry and is currently considering several opportunities, including a job offer from internationally renowned chef Emmanuel Stroobant of Saint Pierre in Singapore.
