The six contestants had to cater a wedding, cooking for over 100 guests. There were two types of canapés, entrees, mains and desserts on the menu.

Each contestant volunteered to cook the different dishes. They were competing individually and the two contestants who gave the least impressive performances would face an elimination round.

Matt told the contestants they also had to make the wedding cake, which could take up to seven hours. The contestants were helped by Handi from Planet Cake as they baked through the night to have the cake ready for the wedding the next day.

After the baked cakes cooled, Poh and Chris volunteered to ice and decorate the assembled cake while the others got some sleep. They finished the cake at 5.00am, just in time to head back to the MasterChef house for a shower before they left to prep the wedding dishes.

Gary and George watched the contestants in the kitchen of the boat where the wedding was taking place, while Matt and Sarah were going to taste the dishes at the wedding above.

Chris volunteered to be team leader and helped Poh who started to crack under the pressure of preparing canapés and entrees. Julie was also doing an entrée and canapé.

One hour before service, Sam, in charge of one of the desserts, cut his finger and had to take time out. Julie’s dill and potato cakes with smoked salmon were the first canapés to be sent out to the guests. Matt said it was a good combination of flavours. He thought the pastry of Poh’s warm brie tartlets with red onion marmalade should have been thinner.

Matt thought Julie’s entrée of a smoked salmon parcel with crab, avocado and tomato was fresh and light but decided the chicken in Poh’s Asian chicken salad entrée was too dry.

Justine’s main was served; crispy skin salmon with prawn. Matt liked the good crunch of the skin. Matt noticed a few of Andre’s serves of beef had bled into the mashed potato underneath.

All the contestants were helping with the desserts, with Sam and Julie helping Chris with his chocolate fondant. Matt loved Chris’ dessert, satisfied with the warm chocolate oozing from its centre.

Matt said the pastry of Sam’s lemon and lime tart wasn’t great and some of the guests thought it was a little thick. Andrea and Shaun were very impressed with their wedding cake and service over, the contestants celebrated with a well earned beer in the kitchen.

Back in the MasterChef kitchen, Sarah told them the four best performers would be lunching with Matt at est restaurant. The two worst would be facing a new elimination test.

Gary said that the judges were very proud of the contestants and that they had done a great job. Matt told Poh the chicken had been dry in her entrée. Gary noted that once again she had buckled under pressure.

Julie was told her canapés were delicious and her entrée a success. Gary said Julie is a rock in the kitchen and a good team player. George told Andre the blood on the potatoes in his main was unacceptable but Matt said the accompanying mushroom ragout and Irish Whisky cream sauce was good.

Matt congratulated Justine on her dish before telling Chris his dessert was a stand out. George told Chris he was the hero of the day, having stayed up all night to get the cake done and then supporting and leading the team, as well as pulling out the dish of the day.

Sam was told his pastry had been a disappointment. Sam cried when it was revealed he and Poh were the two worst performers of the day.

Stay tuned for a unique elimination test.
