A construction worker who up until now has laid water and gas mains for a living, Beau is ready to change his life.
“I want a career doing something I love.”
Beau grew up in a busy household and as a fussy eater his Mum told him he had to learn to cook himself, if he didn’t like what she was making. Cooking runs in Beau’s blood, his sister is a chef.
Inspired by fresh produce - Beau has his own vegetable garden - he hopes to one day supply organic vegetables to restaurants in his local area.
Beau’s love for cooking started with helping his Mum as a child - he remembers hand mincing leftover roast lamb for a cottage pie, but it was Jamie Oliver who really inspired him to look at food as a career. With a love for “rustic home cooking with fresh, zingy ingredients” Beau is most at home barbecuing and creating salads for friends and family. He is also very knowledgeable about cuts of meat and loves prawns.
Beau says he is easy going and a bit of a “character”, with an “Aussie bloke” personality, but he is quietly determined. He hopes his ability to learn fast will be a real asset in the competition.
However he is very conscious that his technical knowledge is limited and that desserts are not his speciality.
“I hope that MasterChef will give me a deeper knowledge of food and cooking - as well as the chance to be mentored by some amazing people.”
As well as cooking, Beau loves to compete in triathlons and successfully completed the New Zealand Iron Man last year.
