If your life (and your tummy) have felt a little emptier since MasterChef Australia 2012 put its knife and fork together, you’ll be happy to know that MasterChef: The Professionals is coming to Channel TEN in 2013! And that’s not all - this new Australian cooking show will be hosted by a formidable food duo: acclaimed chef Marco Pierre White and MasterChef Australia judge Matt Preston.
MasterChef: The Professionals will see 18 qualified chefs competing in the toughest cooking environment in Australia. In a stunning, purpose-built commercial kitchen in Melbourne, they’ll bake, blanche and broil their way towards a tasty trophy - an around-the-world trip working at globally-renowned restaurants and a cash prize. A fresh format promises an intensified viewing experience, but you’ll still get to enjoy some of your favourite guest chefs and challenges.
Marco Pierre White, who has had chefs such as Gordon Ramsay, Heston Blumenthal, Shannon Bennet and Curtis Stone working in his kitchens, will challenge, inspire and mentor the 18 professionals. He said: "MasterChef: The Professionals is the perfect show for me. It embodies everything that I love about cooking: the challenges, the pressure of service and, of course, the core skills and passion required to being an exceptional chef."
Known for his no-nonsense ways, the three Michelin-starred chef plans to put The Professionals through their paces, admitting: "I love nothing more than testing chefs. I want to push them to their extremes so they can discover who they really are and, in doing so, live out their full potential. I will find the next Australian culinary superstar."
Food critic Matt Preston also said of his new co-host: "He is a culinary giant, a perennial over-achiever and a ferociously and famously tough task master," adding: "He is a slightly scary bloke who can flip between volcanic intensity and a wonderful supportive warmth in seconds. I’m honoured and humbled to be hosting MasterChef: The Professionals with one of the greats."
