Eamon Sullivan has signed up to Celebrity MasterChef and unsurprisingly, he's in it to win.
"I'm very competitive and I hate to lose. I will definitely have to be the first to the pantry to get the ingredients. Sportsmen love to be first in everything. I'm used to having cameras in my face when I am racing at the highest level so am confident that I can cook under pressure and have fun with it."
Cooking since the age of eleven, Eamon was taught by his Mum, and her home-cooked meals are still his favourite.
"I started cooking as an elective at school to get more meals in as I was training twice a day. Mum also taught me how to cook the basics and I gradually started to experiment more. I was a fussy eater when I was younger and I remember being in hospital for six weeks and refusing to eat hospital food. So my mum brought me in home made spinach pie for every meal. It is still my favourite meal and the first meal I have every time I go home to see my parents."
An everyday cook, Eamon makes fresh, healthy food that fits in with his training regime.
"I try to eat healthily most of the week, except “fatty Friday”. So on fatty Fridays I try to cook something nice and not feel guilty about it. The rest of the week is fairly basic healthy food which I try to jazz up in different ways that are lower fat but still tasty."
"When you cook for yourself overseas it can be hard, especially when you can't read the language on the packets and you don’t know where or what the ingredients are!"
Eamon says his style of cooking is modern Australian, and while he admits he's not the best cook, his attention to detail and timing, mean that he's a fast learner in the kitchen.
"I wouldn’t say I am the greatest. There is a lot I still want to learn how to do. But I can serve up some great tasting meals. My strengths would be that I am willing to learn new things, I can take criticism and improve on it for next time. My weaknesses would be forgetting an ingredient if I'm not following a recipe or I'm in a rush."
While he cooks for himself daily, Eamon really enjoys throwing dinner parties and enjoys entertaining for his friends.
"I like to share my passion for cooking with people. I won’t enjoy my meal if everyone else doesn’t say it tastes great! I like to see people’s reaction to tasting something and hearing their comments."
